SASC Updates: Board Nominations, Credits, Gardening

Board Nominations
From May 17-26, if you would like to submit your name for one of the following Board Positions, please contact Nancy Cowan at cowann@salineschools.org or 734.429.9274.

Being on the Board is a time commitment. Board Meetings take place the third Monday of the month at 9am. In addition, there is some time spent outside of the meetings on various items. The term will be from August 2023 to July of 2025, a two year term. Incumbent President Lucy Crossey and Treasurer Bill Nicholls have served their term limits and are unable to run again for these positions. We graciously thank Lucy and Bill for their time and dedication to SASC!

The positions and a brief description of their roles follows:
  • President: Shall convene and conduct the meetings of all Board of Directors and the general membership meetings. Basic computer knowledge and email usage is helpful, as that is how most communications take place.
  • Treasurer: Is responsible for the collection and distribution of funds. This person is also responsible for the monthly Treasurer’s Report at meetings. Knowledge of general accounting properties, QuickBooks, and computers is necessary.

If there is more than one individual that submits their name for a position, a vote will need to take place on July 19, which is also the annual picnic.

Gardening
Calling all gardeners! Join SASC on Friday, May 12 as we clean up our patio and get ready for the gardening season. We will be cutting back wisteria, sweeping up the patio, and weeding our raised garden beds and pots. Bring some water and a pair of gardening gloves. We will be meeting on our back patio 1-3pm. Hope to see you there!

Credits
A reminder that all credit(s) on account at SASC expire on June 30, 2023, which is the end of our fiscal year at SASC. If you have a credit on your account from a prior program that may have been cancelled or that you dropped, it MUST BE USED BY JUNE 30, 2023. Credits can be utilized for any fee-based offerings at SASC. Note that our Jul/Aug newsletter will be out in early June so you may also utilize your credit(s) for those programs and trips, as long as you register by June 30, 2023. After this date, all credit balances will go back to 0, no exceptions are available.

Have you heard about the fun our SASC Pickleball group has been having but have been hesitant to join because you don’t know how to play? Or are you currently playing Pickleball but want to brush up on the rules and skills to improve your game? Our member volunteer Paul Backlas and several other players are here to help! The goal will be to teach the game, including the rules, techniques, and tips to make you feel comfortable playing in a group setting. This will be held at Liberty School.

Are you feeling unsure and unsteady on your feet? Now is the time to sign up for a brief balance assessment by board certified Physical Therapists from Probility PT. Your balance will be evaluated and then measured using evidence-based tests to determine your fall risk level. They will review your scores with you and make personalized recommendations to improve your safety and function. Call 734.429.9274 or register at the front desk for an appointment.

Feel free to bring a photo of your favorite celebrity, friend, or family member.
